Mentoring Program

Pörssi ry’s mentoring program to support studies and the first steps into working life

What is it?

Pörssi’s Mentoring Program is a new initiative that launched its pilot in 2024. Its purpose is to provide Pörssi students with better readiness for working life and studies through guidance from a more experienced, already graduated mentor.

The mentoring program is an organized initiative where a more experienced, already graduated professional (mentor) guides someone with less experience (the mentee). The topics of guidance are highly individual, and we aim to match pairs in a way that the mentor can offer the most relevant support and help to their specific mentee.

Common discussion topics include career planning, professional skills, and clarifying academic goals. The program focuses on personal guidance tailored to each individual’s needs. The goal is to support each participant’s personal career development and transfer knowledge from the more experienced mentor to the mentee. Unlike lectures, mentoring is meant to directly address the individual’s specific concerns and questions. In the pilot version, for example, pairs practiced for job interviews together.

The program is organized in cooperation with Pörssin Alumnit ry (Pörssi Alumni Association).

For Whom?

The program is intended for students who are still studying at university and are members of Pörssi ry. While the program is especially designed for students who are further along in their studies (typically third year and up), any Pörssi ry student member is welcome to apply.

The program is completely free of charge, but participation requires membership in Pörssi ry.

Program Structure

The program aims to form around 12–14 mentoring pairs in total.

The structure includes approximately three live group meetings with all participants in the mentoring program. The meetings are typically held in Jyväskylä or in Helsinki. During the program, the mentoring pairs also meet independently within suggested time intervals. Pairs will receive discussion topics provided by the organizers, but naturally, all pairs are encouraged to work at their own pace and to focus on topics and challenges that are relevant for the mentee.

Applications for the program open in September and close about two weeks after the recruitment announcement. The program begins in early November and runs until the end of April.
